The fastest way to reach Himmafushi is by speedboat from Malé. The journey takes approximately 20 to 30 minutes depending on sea conditions and the type of boat. Most guesthouses on Himmafushi arrange speedboat transfers for their guests, with prices typically ranging from 25 to 40 US dollars per person each way. Some operators run shared speedboat services that reduce costs, especially during peak surf season when demand is high. Speedboats depart from the jetty near the fish market in Malé or from Hulhumalé, and the ride crosses open water in the atoll, so conditions can be choppy during the southwest monsoon from May to November. If you are carrying surfboards, confirm with your guesthouse that the speedboat can accommodate them, as some smaller boats have limited deck space.
Public Ferry
The budget option for reaching Himmafushi is the public ferry operated by MTCC (Maldives Transport and Contracting Company). The ferry connects Malé to several islands in North Malé Atoll on a scheduled route, and the journey to Himmafushi typically takes around 60 to 90 minutes. Ferry tickets cost only a few Maldivian rufiyaa, making this by far the cheapest transport option. However, the ferry schedule is limited — services typically run only on certain days of the week and timings may change with limited notice. The ferry departs from the Villingili ferry terminal in Malé. If arriving on a late flight into Velana International Airport, you may need to overnight in Malé or Hulhumalé before catching a morning transfer to Himmafushi, as speedboat services typically do not run after dark. The boat jetty on Himmafushi is on the eastern side of the island, a short walk from most guesthouses.
